ABSTRACT
This study analyzes the relationship between commercial strategy, market positioning, and the
profitability of Ecuadorian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during the period 202x–
202x. SMEs constitute an essential pillar of the national economy, contributing significantly to
employment and productive development. However, they face limitations in planning, market
research, and digitalization, which affects their financial sustainability. The research was framed
within a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design.
A structured questionnaire on a Likert scale (1–5) was applied to 384 companies, covering the
commerce, services, manufacturing, and agroindustry sectors in different regions of the country.
The instrument achieved Cronbach’s alpha of 0.92, ensuring reliability. The data were processed
with Jamovi statistical software, applying descriptive analysis and Pearson and Spearman
correlation tests. The results showed high levels of strategic planning, communication, and brand
image building, but weaknesses in market research and digital presence. Furthermore, no
significant correlations were found between the main variables, suggesting that the effects of
commercial strategies and positioning do not immediately translate into profitability. It is
concluded that Ecuadorian SMEs are making progress in strategic management but face
structural barriers that limit the consolidation of sustainable financial results.
