Afluencia turística en la playa San Lorenzo, cantón Salinas: Retos y oportunidades para el desarrollo sostenible

Resumen

La afluencia turística en la playa San Lorenzo, ubicada en el cantón Salinas, representa un fenómeno de gran relevancia económica y social para la región, sin embargo, al mismo tiempo plantea una serie de desafíos ambientales que requieren una gestión cuidadosa para asegurar la sostenibilidad a largo plazo. Este documento analiza los impactos ambientales derivados del aumento del turismo, destacando problemas como la erosión costera, la contaminación por residuos sólidos y aguas residuales, la sobreexplotación de recursos naturales, y la alteración de los comportamientos de la fauna local. Se examinan las oportunidades económicas que ofrece el turismo, incluyendo la creación de empleo y el impulso del comercio local, al tiempo que se subrayan los desafíos de equilibrar este crecimiento con la conservación de los recursos naturales y culturales. El artículo propone diversas estrategias para la conservación y desarrollo sostenible de la playa San Lorenzo, como la creación de áreas protegidas, la restauración ecológica, la implementación de políticas de turismo responsable, y la formación de alianzas público-privadas. Concluye que, para lograr un desarrollo turístico sostenible, es necesario adoptar un enfoque integral que incluya tanto la protección del medio ambiente como el desarrollo económico, con un énfasis en la educación y sensibilización ambiental de turistas y residentes.

ABSTRACT

The tourist influx to San Lorenzo Beach, located in the canton of Salinas, represents a phenomenon of great economic and social relevance for the region, however, at the same time it poses a series of environmental challenges that require careful management to ensure long-term sustainability. This paper analyzes the environmental impacts derived from the increase in tourism, highlighting problems such as coastal erosion, pollution from solid waste and wastewater, overexploitation of natural resources, and alteration of the behavior of local fauna. The economic opportunities offered by tourism are examined, including job creation and the promotion of local commerce, while highlighting the challenges of balancing this growth with the conservation of natural and cultural resources. The paper proposes various strategies for the conservation and sustainable development of San Lorenzo Beach, such as the creation of protected areas, ecological restoration, the implementation of responsible tourism policies, and the formation of public-private partnerships. It concludes that, in order to achieve sustainable tourism development, it is necessary to adopt a comprehensive approach that includes both environmental protection and economic development, with an emphasis on environmental education and awareness among tourists and local residents.
